Told me she wished:
Needless deaths and illnesses are caused by the uns [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Needless deaths and illnesses are caused by the unsafe or imp [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] oper use of medications. Whenever taking a prescri [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] tion or over-the-counter medication, an indivi [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ual should be aware of the possible side effects and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] eactions that may occur. Healthcare personnel should also be [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] made aware of any pertinent information about medications being [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] currently taken before treatment is permitted. Only the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] can a wise decision be made concerning which medicines ar
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] appropriate. Keeping a card with medical information in a wal [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] et or purse is a good idea for emergencies. Medic [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] lert bracelets are also good for those who may [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ave some type of accident or medical condition where they ar [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] not able to speak, such as a diabetic coma or [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] serious seizure. This type of helpful informati [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] n can mean the difference in receiving proper medical atten [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ion and receiving the wrong medic
al attention. A [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] very important rule to follow is to never take medication that [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] s prescribed for someone else. Also, never take medic [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] tion that has been kept after the expiration date. B [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] th of these can be extremely dangerous. Acute drug reaction [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] may occur when drugs are taken while using alcoho [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] , tobacco and narcotics. Always notify healthcare professional [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] of any situations involving the use of these substances and mak
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] healthcare personnel aware of what medicines you have use [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] that day before receiving treatment. If possible, bring al [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ng the medicines being used. When receiving a prescrip [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ion from your doctor, go over the details of the medicat [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] on to make sure that there is no misunderstanding. Your pharmaci [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] t may also wish to go through some instruction [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] on how the medication is to be taken. Do not skip over this in [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ormation. The more inform
ation you obtain, the less chance there [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] s that you will not take the medicine properly or that you will [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] not receive the proper medicine from the pharmacist. Double chec [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ing this way is a worthwhile precautionary measu [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] e. Never assume that all medications for the same ail [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ent should be taken the same way. Many drugs are p [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] escribed for similar problems yet vary greatly in [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] he amount of dosage, side-effects, etc. Never assume anything ab [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ut new medication. Check each new medicine out thoroughl
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] with the doctor before using and follow directions exac [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ly when taking. Keep all medications--even mouthwashes [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] -out of the reach of children. Even a light dosage [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] of a drug prescribed for an adult could be fatal to a child [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] When giving children vitamins or other medicines whic [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] may look and taste like candy, be sure that the child i [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] aware that this is medicine and the dangers involved. Even [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] fter
educating the child to the dangers, keep medicines [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] stored in a safe place and out of the reach of childr [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] n. Storing medicines in direct sunlight or in areas of intense he [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] t or cold may alter the effects of the drugs. Unless di [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ected to do so, do not automatically keep medici [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] es refrigerated. Keep drugs and medicines in cool [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and dry areas so that they maintain their strength and pote [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] cy. Jim is the son every parent dreams of - ex [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] eptionally bright, funny, handsome, athletic, full of
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] nergy and the joy of life. Always a step ahead of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] he other children his age, and always restless to [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] do more, learn more, be more. With me being a working mom [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Jim was in daycare full-time since infancy, and was alw [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ys stepped ahead early to the next oldest class. Na [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] urally, as soon as he was old enough for kindergarten, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] we didn't hesitate to enroll him. Every parents dream would [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] be every teachers dream
wouldn't he?But the drea
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] quickly crumbled into a nightmare. Jim was unable to maintai [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] his focus for group activities, unable to sit still for story t [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] me; and although he loved school, he quickly grew bor [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] d without the constant play breaks he had in daycare. The [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] chool staff (Jims teacher, principal, and even the coun [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] elor) was unsympathetic and actually suggested that I pul [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] him out of school and put him back in daycare and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] try again next year". He was even suspended twice for h [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] s "disruptive" behavior. I was completely at a loss. Jim was a
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ways everyones favorite child. What was happening here?Well, par [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] of the problem was a surprisingly backwards staffing at [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] he school. They didn't recognize the characteri [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] tics of Jims behavior as being typical of ADD children. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] e was also very young, having just made the legal cutoff date t [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] enter kindergarten. Repeating kindergarten was a good idea; [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] it gave Jim a chance to mature and be on more of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] a peer level with his classmates. Pulling him [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] out of school would have been traumatic, however, and should no [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] even have been suggested. Once they were reminded that they had [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] a moral and a legal obligation to keep Jim in school, they ba [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ked off and actually began to try and cope with [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] im. I also began working with Jim to try and help him focus more [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] nd behave in school.Attention Deficit Disorder, better know [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] as ADD, is becoming quite well known. Probably half the messa [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] es I see posted on herb lists and bulletin boards
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] talk about ADD (and, the other half seem to talk about St. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Johns Wort!). In all seriousness, now that were [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] able to recognize ADD, it doesn't have nearly the sti [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ma that it used to. Treatments abound in the al [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] opathic medical world, with Ritalin being the drug of choice [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] for children diagnosed as ADD or ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hypera [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] tivity Disorder). Even adults are now realizing tha [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] theyre not "stupid, crazy or lazy", but that t
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ey have a recognized and treatable condition. When I say treata [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] le, in a traditional medical sense, that mean [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] you have to take some sort of drug on a daily basis, possib [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] y for the rest of your life. Usually the drugs [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] re a stimulant that activates the part of the brain that contr [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ls focus and attention. At first, I was resista [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] t to using any sort of drug on a child. However, whe [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Jim re-entered kindergarten (at a different school!) t
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] e next year, while he was more mature and somewhat [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] more focused on his learning, he still had behavior [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] l problems and was somewhat disruptive in class. His t [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] acher was a jewel, and told me she wished she [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] could have a class of just Jim and maybe four [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] r five other students, because then he could ge [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the attention he needed. But, in a class of 23, he was jus [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] too restless and still unable to focus on gr [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] up activities, and it was
difficult for everyone. She sugges [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ed that I have him tested for ADD.You guessed it Jim was a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] classic case. And, the doctor recommended Ritalin, o [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] course; which I put Jim on with great reluctance. He [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] emained on Ritalin for the last part of school, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] nd in the first few weeks of summer vacation, I weaned him [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] off of it, with his doctors permission, so tha [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] I could try some alternative methods. Jim was going with [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] his brother and step-father to
visit friends for the summer. I h [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] d always had an interest in herbs and natural [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] medicine, as did our friends, so I told her to t [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] y modifying Jims diet and then we could look at he [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] bal supplements. The first thing to go was sugar. I had already [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ut it way down, but on a busy morning Pop-Tarts make a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] quick and tasty breakfast! Jim still gets the occas [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] onal sweet, but doesn't crave them at all, and gets plenty of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ruit. In addition, red dyes were removed. His favorite Position.Save
me in memory!
